Inspiration

The charitable sector faces persistent challenges with transparency, donor engagement, and efficient fund distribution. We boiled the problem down to 4 main points:

Lack of transparency on how funds are used prevents beneficiaries from getting the funds they need.
Charities struggle to demonstrate their impact effectively.
Donors feel disconnected from the causes they support. More often than not there are not enough recurring donors.
Inefficient fund distribution due to high overhead leads to wasted resources.

We were inspired to create Blochange after recognizing how blockchain technology could revolutionize charitable giving by creating immutable records of donations and their impact, while empowering donors to actively participate in the fund distribution process.

What it does

Blochange is a blockchain-based platform that creates transparency and accountability in charitable giving through:

Smart contract donation pools that securely manage and track funds
Milestone-based fund releases that ensure donations are used as intended
Platform to allow charities to demonstrate with proof how each transaction was used in their mission
A donor voting system that gives contributors direct involvement in verifying milestone completion
Automated fund distribution triggered if milestones are voted as complete by donors based on submitted evidence, and refund if donors vote against it.
Automatic Receipt generation for donations to use for tax rebates.

How we built it

We developed Blochange's Smart Contract using Solidity on the Polygon (MATIC) network's blockchain infrastructure. We used Next.js for the frontend along with Ether.js for wallet interactions. MongoDB was used as the DB but we plan to move to IPFS to make it truly decentralized.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to create a fully working application on the test net and having a polished UI in the short time span that we worked on this project. We truly believe that with scale this project can positively impact countless charitable organisations.
