Inspiration

Our team came together with a shared mission: to empower individuals and families worldwide to achieve financial independence. Inspired by the challenges of financial illiteracy, inequality, and lack of access to financial tools, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to take control of their finances. These global issues motivated us to create BloomBank, a platform that bridges these gaps with technology and education.

We chose to focus on supporting five key groups: low-income families, single mothers, students, elderly individuals, and unemployed users. These groups often face unique financial challenges, from managing limited resources to navigating complex life transitions. Our platform aims to provide these individuals with the tools and knowledge they need to build resilience, achieve financial stability, and ultimately improve their quality of life. Our vision is to make financial empowerment accessible to everyone, starting with the communities that need it most.

What it does

BloomBank is an AI-powered platform designed to simplify financial management and provide personalized solutions for our users. Here’s how it works:

1. Personalized Financial Advice：Tailored recommendations based on user-provided financial data, including income, expenses, and goals.

2. Interactive Education Modules：Engaging lessons to build financial literacy, covering topics such as budgeting, saving, and managing debt.

3. Family Account Integration：A collaborative account option that allows families to share income and expenses, with an invite feature for members to join easily via QR code.

4. Donation and Study Page：Access donation opportunities and free financial literacy courses to enhance both personal and community well-being.

5. AI-Powered Chatbot：A customizable chatbot that supports text, audio, and file inputs, providing real-time assistance, expense tracking, and goal management.

How we built it

BloomBank was developed using a combination of modern technologies to ensure a robust and scalable platform:

-Frontend: React and JavaScript, styled with Ant Design and ChatUI for a seamless user experience.

-Backend: Flask, integrated with Firebase and Google Cloud MySQL for secure and reliable data storage.

-AI Integration: Finetuned Gemini APIs to provide intelligent and responsive chatbot functionalities.

-Hosting: Firebase for authentication and Heroku for scalable backend deployment.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Complexity of Integration: Balancing AI, financial tools, and user-friendly design under tight deadlines.
  2. Scalability: Ensuring the platform can serve diverse global audiences effectively.
  3. User Engagement: Designing features that are intuitive yet powerful for different levels of financial literacy.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Successfully integrating a family account system for collaborative financial planning.
  2. Developing a smart, interactive AI chatbot capable of handling diverse inputs like text, audio, and files.
  3. Creating a functional and engaging education module to promote financial literacy.
  4. Designing a platform that aligns with key SDGs, addressing poverty and inequality.

What we learned

This project taught us the importance of empathy in design, understanding the diverse challenges of our target groups, and creating solutions that cater to real needs. We honed our technical skills in AI integration, UI/UX design, and database management while also strengthening our ability to collaborate across cultures and disciplines.

What's next for BloomBank

Our next steps include:

  1. User Testing: Conducting interviews and collecting feedback from our target groups to refine the platform.
  2. Partnerships: Collaborating with NGOs, financial institutions, and local communities to expand reach.
  3. Localization: Adding support for multiple languages and cultural contexts to serve global audiences effectively.
  4. Advanced AI Features: Enhancing the chatbot’s capabilities to provide even deeper insights and automation.
