Inspiration
The recent wild fires in California and the amazing work first responders do inspired us to create an application to hopefully help them.
What it does
Uses cellular data to display the location of other users around you and prompt you of any nearby fire alerts. If your phone does not have access to data, the app falls into a bluetooth mode that shows other users around you based on how strong their bluetooth connection is.
How we built it
We created an Android and iOS version of Bluefire using bluetooth and wifi. We used the standard Android and Swift libraries to retrieve the maps and locations of users. Used Angular to create a website and used Firebase on the backend to connect the iOS and Android apps to the database.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to generate a peer to peer connection to allow farther ranges, but there were limitations with bluetooth.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
We learned new platforms and learned to use GPS to track users.
What's next for Bluefire
Continue searching for a way to connect people during emergencies without using cellular data or wifi.
