Inspiration:
Recently text books are getting more and more expensive, making students either cost a lot or cannot have a book for reviewing. However, after one year of studying, most of the books get wasted since students no longer need to use them. Coincidentally, one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals is Quality Education. These inspired us to create this app to help students find a platform where it can easily trade second hand books, so that they can use less money to get better education.
What it does:
It can allow user to search for a type of book they want, if it is on there, they can check information of the book, including price, seller location, seller contact and more. Once user gets in touchw the seller, they can discuss when to trade and where to trade in person. User can also sell books they no longer need by uploading and completing all required information. User can also check/remove books they are interested in or remove/edit books they uploaded
How we built it:
We used MIT App Inventor, it allow us to build apps by block codes. We used CloudDB to store value and pass them to each individual screen
Challenges we ran into:
We ran into many challenge such as not able to test the program. During the test day, the wifi was really bad so we never got out chance to test it. We had to test and fix the program at home in our own time. Other challenge we encounter is that when using cloudDB, a plugin in MIT App inventor that stores values and allows different page to connect with each other, it cannot store too much information or it will break.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
An accomplishment we're proud of is that we were able to over come the challenge and we think it can help many people with their book renting/buying. We are also proud of organizing multiple values and using them correctly to each screen
What we learned:
We learned how to use MIT App Inventor and how to use block code for more efficient stuffs. We also learned how to get access to external links like google map
What's next for Book2ndTrade:
The next step for Book2ndTrade is have student and schools test it for us. If it really can make it Easy, Affordable and Efficient for the students, we love to bring it to everyone. We also wants to create profile for each individual user so that they can better organize their information. We plan to create a database that contains every school so that users can directly get access to books that their classmates sell, so that they will more likely buy books that are required for their courses
