Inspiration
Education should be accessible to all, but as students, we are aware of the entry bar there is as a result of high textbook costs. Surely there has to be a way for us to reliably get cheaper textbooks, right?
What it does
The webapp scrapes the web for the cheapest listings of virtually any textbook online, aswell as features app specific listings from users.
How we built it
We built it primarily with Flask and Bootstrap. We designed the interface via Figma.
Challenges we ran into
Learning new languages definitely wasn’t easy, but definitely worth it. We had to get over a huge learning curve.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
All of our team learned Flask, HTML, and CSS during the Hackathon. One of our members also had no coding experience. Yet, even as beginners, we were able to build a cohesive website that may one day help college students like ourselves.
What we learned
We learned many different languages and skills, such as JavaScript, Flask, CSS, and became more proficient in Python.
What's next for BookaBook
Since we were unable to create a server to actually store our data, we hard-coded most of our material. In the future, we would like to be able to store user information so they can access it. Additionally, we would like to create more accessible features to be inclusive to all college students, such as increasing font size.
