Inspiration

The rising practise of reading books online, now that the globe has become accustomed to the digital era, inspired us to create Bookafè- A book for every person and a person for every book. . As buying e-books online isn't feasible for everyone, we came up with this idea to allow bibliophiles to borrow books from those who hold the digital copy of it and to lend a book from your collection to fellow readers digitally for free thus bringing the reading community together.

What it does

Bookafè is a web platform that enables readers to read, lend, borrow and discover books online from fellow readers. It comprises of collections of books from different genres uploaded by users to lend and borrow books from other users to read, a reading log that shows you the books that you are currently reading, have read and your bucket list of books to be read (TBR). Users can select the books they wish to read and the person they would like to borrow it from ,and get access to the book using virtual kafè coins. Time spent on reading, uploading a book for lending and joining reading challenges increases your kafè coins earning you exciting rewards.

How we built it

We have used HTML for the front-end, CSS and Figma for styling, Javascript and Bootstrap for the backend.

Challenges we ran into

Implementing minute features and perfecting our platform in just two days was quite challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We've designed and implemented all the features that we had in mind when we visualized our platform, Bookafè.

What we learned

We learnt that there were many hidden challenges faced by readers reading e-books online. This hackathon has given us newbies a platform to learn front-end designing and back-end implementations. We've learnt the importance of teamwork and time management.

What's next for Bookafè

We're looking to build our online reading community, increasing our book collections and adding new user-friendly features.
