Inspiration

I have a good amount of experience developing games in Unity 3D, but I felt challenged to try making a 2D game. I always thought they were lame and boring but when I got around to trying to make one I realized how capable and enjoyable they were to develop and play.

What it does

It's a simple 2D platformer that leverages claimable platforms and enemies as well as player color cycling. The game is still in heavy development so there's not really a finish or ending to the game or levels. The basics of the game are kill the enemies on the platforms using the guns you're given and claim the platform. Depending on the color of your player, you will gain a different statistic multiplier for as long as you have that platform claimed and have that player color equipped (Red = attack bonus, Green = regeneration bonus, Blue = defense bonus). The enemies will respawn and try to claim your platforms back so you have to make sure you have as many platforms claimed as possible to maintain the highest statistic multiplier you can.

How we built it

I used Unity 2D as the game engine, Visual Studio Community 2022 for coding, and paint.net for the art (made entirely by me). Once again, this project is in heavy development and is nowhere near complete. There is still a lot of features planned for this game.

Challenges we ran into

The first challenge was thinking of a game idea. I never really got a full planned out idea, but I started developing anyways. I got lucky and the idea came to me during development. The second challenge was mainly just dealing with game flow and making the game user friendly. I am still aware of multiple bugs and they will be fixed soon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am really proud of the art I managed to make (this is something I struggle with in every game) and how many bugs I fixed in the given amount of time.

What we learned

I learned how much more powerful Unity 2D is than I previously thought. I have a new enjoyment and passion for 2D games as well now.

What's next for Boredom

I will definitely continue developing it and hopefully build a full release soon.
