Be botanical or be blitzed.
Introducing botanical blitz, a plant-based game that trains you to type. Type accurately and you’ll grow our flower, a hand drawn, animated gif that grows as you type. But if you type wrong, watch it get blitzed as lightning strikes your botanical body.
With unconventional graphics, a leaderboard system, and multiple landing pages, this project truly pushed us to the limits. Many of us had to learn HTML and CSS. Others had to master React, while all of us had to learn how to synthesize a fusion of several languages and frameworks. For our first Hackathon, this truly emphasized the qualities of a comprehensive project, one that combines art with a full stack development process.
Delegating work was a tough challenge. With everyone providing different skill sets, it was tough to collaborate when only certain people could handle certain tasks. This was a big factor to many of the bottlenecks within our project, and it was exacerbated further when learning how to use Github in collaborative settings. This was seen most clearly when developing the backend, where only one member could fully approach linking the leaderboard to the front end visuals.
In a world that becomes increasingly more focused in the tech space, the ability to type quickly is detrimental to not have. Especially with the emergence of tik tok and other fast pace mediums, providing educational content that remains engaging is a key element for children. Through Botanical Blitz, we hope to fill this need through a visually incentivized program. So how about we give it a try?
