What inspired us
Serving the blind community and increasing inclusivity.
What it does
Identifies braille letters from an image and translates them to English text and speech.
How we built the project
We used Pytorch, Jupyter Notebooks, and Figma to create a CNN model that identifies and translates Braille with a mockup app counterpart.
Challenges we ran into
The first 3 hours were spent attempting to load data, and then I figured out that what we had worked on was not suitable for use, so we chose to take a different direction which was relatively successful. The android app took a lot of time to get off the ground, and we went through several different ideas on how to run the neural network.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our CNN model and our Figma app design.
What we learned
We learned more about the process of creating an app. Especially the trial and error process and how to constantly improve from our previous failed designs/ideas. We learned more about working together as a team, even when we disagreed - we made sure to take everyone's ideas into consideration.
What's next for Braille Buzz
Creating a Printer along with our putting together all the components of our app to read and print the braille.
