Inspiration
An attempt to tackle the social isolation in a distributed workplace by re-introducing one on one time and general chitchat to an employee base.
What it does
Employees, or peers (students) can match with other people in their organisation (dating app style). The focus is however on the general life catch ups that are lost in a WFH environment. Ie. chatting to a co-worker about their new car, or their sibling graduating from uni.
How we built it
Our app runs in Django, and the messaging component was running locally in docker containers, using websocket to connect chat instances
Challenges we ran into
Creating a responsive app in django, as none of us have much front end experience
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The messaging component is really cool! and we love the UI
What we learned
We'd like to use a more modern web framework in our next hackathon!
What's next for Break-Connect
Implementing the ability to import a schedule and have breaks automatically start rather than be manually started by the user.
