Inspiration

We keep hearing about poor air quality in the UK but we love to be outside and go running. We wanted to know when the air was good to breathe.

What it does

Breathr uses the openaq api to look up the air quality in UK cities. It looks at PM2.5, PM10, ozone, NO2 and SO2 and uses the Defra air quality thresholds to decide whether we can breathe safely or not.

How we built it

It was mainly built by Alexa in html, css and javascript and also using tachyon for styling. Iqrah and Judith contributed some of the code.

Challenges we ran into

We looked at different backend options but in the end decided to use an API which didnt need a key, hence a backend wasnt needed

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is Iqrah and Judiths first hackathon - so we are proud to have built something - with a big contribution from Alexa Incorporating an API

What we learned

A bit of meteor, how to incorporate an API, some javascript, using git

What's next for Breathr

Including more features - eg UV (do I need sunscreen) and rain (shall I bring a brolly)
