What is Wizard of Hopps

The Wizard of Hopps is a 2d top down RPG Wizarding game where your magical powers are granted through the right buzz provided by the butter beer. You play as Pigglywink the Forgetful and battle against enemies in the quest to find more ingredients to brew the perfect beer for you and your boys. The combat is made to be exciting, and stressful as you will have to keep the right buzz balance with out drinking too much. If you find yourself drinking too much like first time players do your powers will cease to work, leaving you vulnerable and either throwing up. However, on the contrary, if you drink too little, your powers will cease to work.

Future plans for the game

I would like to add in the full fledged mechanics of brewing all the wolds different spirits and beer, with themed lands and enemies, and multi player. I would like to have created not only an open world retro graphic game, but a game that tells the story of the worlds culture of spirits and beer. I would also like to create more spells, character and enemy designs, and even an original sound track.

Story of creation

Inspiration

This was inspired by my time at college, and from the DARE program as a little wizard. I have witness the great fun of being able to control and handle a buzz, but the over use and pushing limits will always cause problems. So a game was created to some how subconsciously discourage an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.

How we built it

This was built on the game engine Godot, and the assets and animation were created in house on an application called Aesprite.

Challenges we ran into

Animation is hard, there is a lot more too it than I had originally though..well maybe lack of critical thoughts. There are so many different combinations of moves, and frames to be made, so its an endless hill that I wish I could have spent more time walking up with my boulder(animation) to make the game more aesthetically pleasing.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The only things worth doing are challenging so the animations were deff the most rewarding parts of the game. Also, if you take a good hard look at Pigglywink the Forgetful (yes you have to say the full thing), you will notice that he is RIT orange!

What we learned

Game devs and artists need to be appreciated more, but the Minecraft team can defiantly be doing more.
