Inspiration
As students, we strive to save up on spending. Food is one of our daily expenditures that depletes most of our savings. Especially if you are eating RIT Dining meals. Even the ones who cook at home, don't find time to do it every day. On the other hand, students who are passionate about cooking and can actually monetize it, don't because of how hectic the process is.
What it does
Our app helps such students looking for eating home-cooked or different food for cheaper prices connect with other students who are passionate about cooking. These students who are passionate about cooking can make money out of the meals cooked and it wouldn't take much of their time as it'd just be an extra portion to cook apart from their daily meals.
How we built it
We used React to build BrickAndCheese as a progressive web app.
Challenges we ran into
We underestimated the toll exhaustion would take on us. This led to us descoping the app multiple times to get a working MVP in time for submission.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We worked together using many different technologies to create a cool product we were all excited about. Additionally, we are proud of our perseverance in continuing to build and improve the app throughout the night.
What we learned
We learned and gained experience using many different technologies while building BrickAndCheese. We also gained insight into how a product like ours may be brought to market and made to be profitable.
What's next for BrickAndCheese
BrickAndCheese has a long way to go. Presently it has very minimal features. We can incorporate AI features that provide recommendations, we can add texting/mailing features to notify customers/cooks. Right now it's a campus-based app, but it can be scaled to neighbourhoods.
