Inspiration
With the pandemic being a crutch to in-person interactions, we wanted a place that students can freely talk to each other and have a sort of creative freedom, not just through larger social media sites.
What it does
It is a public chatting site that allows people to talk, video call, screen share, and draw on a canvas. People can use tags or names to search chat rooms available to their liking, and can join anonymously and be able to talk about the topic at hand.
How we built it
We used a variety of API's, including Dolby.io, in coordination with front- and back-end web development.
Challenges we ran into
We could not get a server to respond while allowing interactions with two people at the beginning of the design process, but after many trials and debugging on our end, we eventually got it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Locating Dolby.io's API and integrating it with npm to use it to our advantage. We are also proud of being able to come together as a group and creating this project from scratch.
What we learned
Fatigue is a consideration after programming for many hours on end, but learning different API's and packages was a great experience for us as a group.
What's next for BrickChat
Improve on some features to make BrickChat more accessible and not only have the span of RIT students, but rather on a national scale.
