Inspiration
Over the last two to three years, we've observed a notable increase in criminal activities in and around our campus. Motivated by these concerns, we have undertaken the initiative to develop a web application aimed at assisting individuals in navigating the campus securely. The app will also allow users to share their location updates with their network, providing an additional layer of safety by informing others when they have safely reached their destination.
What it does
This application displays the positions of Code Blue phones across the CPP campus in relation to the user's current location. Additionally, users can share their arrival at a destination by utilizing the "check-in" feature. The home page provides easy access to campus resources and offers daily safety tips for users.
How we built it
We employed Next.js, integrated the Google Maps API, utilized Firebase, and implemented Tailwind CSS in the development of this web application to ensure seamless functionality across both desktop and mobile platforms.
Challenges we ran into
The primary challenges we encountered revolved around the initial configuration of Next.js and Tailwind CSS, along with a few minor conflicts during the merging process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
At the start, we doubted our ability to build an application with a smooth UI in such a short time. However, through teamwork and effective problem-solving, we not only overcame our concerns but exceeded expectations, showcasing the strength of our collaboration and skills.
What we learned
This experience emphasized the significance of planning, organizing, and effective communication within a team. Moreover, the project provided valuable insights and learning opportunities about React and Firebase.
What's next for BroncoSafe
Our aspirations for this application extend beyond the current campus, as we plan to expand its reach to other campuses. Additionally, we aim to incorporate a live routing feature, empowering users to navigate from point A to point B using the Code Blue phones for enhanced safety and convenience.
