Inspiration
We took the engineering physics together and always suffered with what formulas to use for different problems. We knew what was given in the question, but sometimes we had to use two or more formulas in a question to solve it. That's why we created Calphys. It filters the formulas according to the quantities selected making it easier for questions to solve.
What it does
Lets the user interactively filter equations by the available variables.
How we built it
With React, Latex and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
- Styling conflicts with CSS.
- Inexperience with React.
- Messy code created more difficult to debug bugs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Attending our first Hackathon.
What we learned
How difficult it is to turn an idea into a working project, especially under a short time constraint. To limit project scope to something more manageable as a MVP.
What's next for Calphys
Add all of the intended functionality; highlighting equations better based on selected variables; building a better looking interface; once an equation is selected, give the user a calculator to use to plug in their own values.
