Inspiration

We were inspired by the many stores reopening after the coronavirus pandemic. We noticed many stores have had to reduce the number of shoppers at any given time which has left many customers waiting.

What it does

Our app has two modes: shop owner and shopper. Shop owners can use a simple screen to add and subtract guests as they enter and exit the store. This information is then used to calculate the percent capacity of the store which is updated live and posted for shoppers. Shop owners can also provide updated store hours, PPE requirements, and other information about their stores. If the store is at 100% capacity, store owners can also provide wait times for shoppers. On the shopper mode, customers can scroll through their favorite stores and find accurate and updated information about wait times. Shoppers can share their location to better locate low capacity stores in their area. Customers can also favorite stores to quickly access their favorite places.

How we built it

We used Codename one in Java to build the skeleton of our app. We then pulled different APIs from google to find store and user locations.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble pulling and storing data from an API. We also had difficulty pulling the location from our users. We also struggled with combining code from different computers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our creativity and our teamwork. We worked very well together and communicated efficiently considering the circumstances. Our group had a wide range of coding abilities and we effectively divided up the work to ensure every team member participated. We also learned a lot of new skills along the way and are proud of our growth.

What we learned

We learned about accessing APIs and storing the information pulled in a database.

What's next for Cap Count

We plan on making our app more aesthetically pleasing. We will also develop a way to verify store identities. We will also work on developing a way to search for stores and algorithms to provide the most relevant stores for each individual users.
