Inspiration

Our teammate, Olivia Yong and her family members have suffered brain injuries. Upon the discussion of the detrimental impacts of delayed diagnosis and treatment for concussions and diseases of the brain, we began researching how we could help those with Alzheimer's disease.

What it does

RECOLLECT allows you to locate your loved ones that have Alzheimer's disease.

How we built it

Twilio API used for location tracking Firebase used for user database User interface made with ReactJS

Challenges we ran into

GPS accuracy in a small range was our biggest challenge! We walked around the space we were working in quite a bit! It was our first time working with GPS, but it was also one of the most fun parts of our learning process.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Utilizing Google's Geolocation Maps API to track location real-time! Watching our coordinates change as we walked around while testing our product was fascinating.

What we learned

At first, we wanted to integrate hardware into our project as we initially ideated an eye-tracking product that would help diagnose concussions. Due to limitations with our PC's specifications, we had to pivot to a different type of problem that affects the brain, Alzheimer's disease. We learned that it's important to first identify our technical abilities before attempting to use hardware that's completely new to us!

What's next for RECOLLECT

RECOLLECT's simple user interface would benefit from even more features for users. We could conduct user research on what pain points are specifically relevant to those that have Alzheimer's disease, and the guardians that take care of them.
