Inspiration
There are so many good courses on Coursera or Mongdb University, and I want to take them all. However, many times, I just dropped the ball—I would never finish the course.
So, we designed this game and find a way to reward our learners. I believe that Gamification encourages our users to be engaged and learning!
What it does
CHALC (Competitive Higher Alternative Learning Community) is a platform that allows individuals to search courses, matches individuals into competitions, and rewards them for completing their courses with funding from the affiliate-marketing firm's commissions for completing MOOCs courses.
How we built it
We used MongoDB Stitch and React Native. We store more than 2000+ MOOCs courses and users engagement metrics in Mongodb's database.
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out how to keep track of each learners' progress in courses passively.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Mongodb Stitch is easy to integrate with React Native to provide native app experience for our users on both iOS and Android without two code bases!
What we learned
Used MongoDB Stitch to speed up development.
In addition, we gained valuable insight into the rapidly changing monetization within the MOOC industry.
What's next for Chalc
In May, we are launching our BETA version and will do soft launch through the summer. With field-testing, we will be confident to apply for accelerator programs in September.
