Inspiration

We were very interested in seeing the different trends of different types of charities as a way to see how culture, politics, and societal norms change over the years. Even though our tool can do much more.

What it does

It allows for anyone to input a certain type of charity they want to look for (in natural language) and after being processed through a natural language model (Gemini) it allows us to filter for only the charities that are semantically related to the type that you input.

How we built it

We used Javascript and various frameworks to make the front end. We used python and various imported modules in order to make our backend.

Challenges we ran into

We had many problems finding data that had enough context for what we were using it for, several problems with cleaning the data, and using Gemini in our front end while using its outputs to talk with our back end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We got so much done so quickly with only two people; including using tools we had never used before.

What we learned

We learned how to use the Gemini API tool, and various backend algorithms.

What's next for Charity Tool

We would like to finish developing the visualization of the data for our users.
