Inspiration
- We wanted to participate in the M&T tech challenge and gain experience with web app development.
What it does
-This chat application allows students to advertise their own chat or join other chats with students who are in similar academic situations, classes, and clubs.
How we built it
-We built this in VSCode using the React library and JavaScript as the frontend and chatengine.io as the backend for account and chat functionality. The application is hosted on netlify.com.
Challenges we ran into
-We had struggles picking a productive solution to the challenge and figuring out how to effectively collaborate on the project as a team. -There were a lot of outdated tutorials that caused us trouble in implementing our ideas because of code that was not able to run anymore.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-Learning React -Improving JavaScript skills -Dividing work amongst the team members -Creating a functioning web application for the first time -Overcoming adversity -Maintaining our endurance through the night
What we learned
-React (hooks, states, etc.) -Javascript -HTML/CSS -Making API calls -Hosting a website through a third party
What's next for ChatPSU
-Ability for students to create their own accounts -Landing page website to advertise the chat app
