ChefAssist

Inspiration

What initially drove us to make ChefAssist was our lack of skills in the kitchen. We wanted clear and simple instructions with no fuss and decided to dedicate ourselves to this project.

What it does

ChefAssist is a voice assistant designed to be your personal Sous Chef in the kitchen. ChefAssist offers a wide variety of meals and will help guide you to make the perfect dish using voice commands, precise and understandable quantities, timekeeping, and much more!

How we built it

The backend is written in Javascript and uses AssemblyAI's API for live audio transcription. The front end uses HTML/CSS and JS.

Challenges we ran into

One of the largest challenges was finding a good pace for the API. There are different paces on how people speak and we had to tailor our functions to match it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of learning something new in the form of async functions and real-time data and tracking.

What we learned

We learned a lot of technical skills such as async functions but we also learned the importance of clear communications.

What's next for ChefAssist

Unfortunately, due to issues between the Django framework and Node.js we had to scrap the backend functionality of an adaptive UI with voice commands. Given time, we will surely put this together to further push the goal of ChefAssist! Or... competitive cooking...!?!? But always remember, Falivel, Falafel, Falovel.
