Inspiration

Idle games are cool! We're super cool, so you can take our word for it. Plus, 2/3s of this team play idle games - which have already been established to be cool, making us cool. Chemistry is also cool. We're three CS majors, so we don't remember too much about Chemistry. Besides that it's pretty cool.

Naturally, the idea came to combine two cool things. And thus, the Chemistry Bond Idle Game aka ChemistryBIG came into existence!

What does it do

What doesn't it do? ChemistryBIG is the new hotness, the website where it's happening. This site allows the user to simulate having a bunch of tiny atoms in an enclosed environment, and tossing them around! But what can these elements do?

  • Fuse into heavier elements! These bonds are unbreakable!
  • Form decay chains into lighter elements! I guess the bonds weren't unbreakable!
  • Glow, sometimes! I'm sure it's safe...
  • Run away from mouse clicks! Because it wouldn't be an idle game without something to wield the power of the mouse cursor over.

That's only the beginning. You can spend these elements on a plethora of upgrades, all designed with the express purpose of getting you... more upgrades!

Finally, collect every molecule and compound! Go through a vast list of fan favorite molecules formed by your hardworking elements, including but not limited to... H20, C10H15N, and NaCl - AKA sodium chloride, for those who know.

How we built it

We wanted to keep it simple! Our tech stack was just HTML, JS, and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

Molecules were so powerful that they ended up causing one of our github branches to implode. Scary stuff!

Special thanks to PhD candidate Ken for chemistry-related consulting.
