Inspiration

We were inspired by the desire to make travel more meaningful and rewarding, combining the joy of exploration with the ability to support local communities. We wanted to create a platform that not only helps users document their journeys but also connects them to the heart of the cities they visit.

What it does

CityExplorer allows users to journal their travel experiences, earn points for visiting new landmarks, and redeem those points at small businesses in the city, fostering a deeper connection between travelers and local economies.

How we built it

We used Python, Django, the Google OAuth API, and Heruko to create and host our website.

Challenges we ran into

Setting up the website and it was two of our member's first hackathon!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating a platform that not only enhances travel experiences but also supports local businesses and offers space for reflection.

What we learned

We learned the importance of balancing user experience with technical functionality, as well as the value of building strong partnerships with local businesses to create a sustainable ecosystem.

What's next for CityExplorer

Expanding our list of cities, allowing users to connect and share their travel experiences with their friends, and creating more travel planning features!
