CitySync

🌟 Inspiration

In every city, citizens face daily challenges — from broken streetlights and potholes to unsafe water and sanitation issues — but most of these go unreported or unresolved. We wanted to build a platform that not only allows people to raise their voices but also empowers them to act and rewards them for contributing to society. CitySync was born out of the need to create a smarter, cleaner, more responsive civic ecosystem — where communities connect with local governments and NGOs to create real change.

📱 What it does

CitySync is a civic engagement app that enables citizens to:

Report public issues like garbage dumps, water leaks, broken infrastructure, or safety hazards
Join community events hosted by verified NGOs and foundations (e.g. cleanups, food drives, blood donation)
Earn Deed Points for every meaningful action they take, creating a gamified civic reputation
Get recognized through badges and milestones for consistent participation
Enable governments to view real-time dashboards of citizen-reported issues prioritized using AI

🛠️ How we built it

Frontend: Built using Flutter (Dart) for cross-platform mobile deployment
Backend: Firebase for real-time database, storage, and authentication
AI Integration:
- Used Gemini APIs for:
- Validating event submissions
- Calculating Deed Points based on impact, effort, and time
- Summarizing and prioritizing public issues for government dashboards
Design: Prompt-engineered logos and UI ideas using AI tools like Figma and Fooocus

🧗 Challenges we ran into

I am bad at designing, it was really hard to look for design inspiration and customize
Preventing spam and irrelevant content from getting into the civic pipeline

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developed a fully functional mobile app with user reporting, event creation, and AI-driven dashboard
Built a multi-layered reward system that gamifies impact, not just usage
Designed a smart government dashboard that helps officials prioritize public action based on real citizen data
Created a scalable model that aligns with multiple UN SDGs and can be deployed in any smart city

📚 What we learned

Prompt engineering is a critical skill for integrating AI in real-world apps
Community platforms must balance freedom of expression with moderation and quality control
A simple, meaningful reward system (like Deed Points) can turn everyday actions into powerful movements
Cross-functional thinking — combining tech, design, policy, and social impact — is essential to solving civic problems
