Inspiration We noticed that many citizens avoid reporting civic problems like potholes, garbage, or streetlight failures due to fear of exposure, complex portals, or a belief that their voice won’t matter. We were inspired to build CivicVoice, a platform that makes reporting issues safe, simple, and impactful—giving every citizen a voice, anonymously.
🚀 What it does CivicVoice is a privacy-first civic issue reporting platform that:
Allows users to report issues anonymously with a live photo.
Auto-tags the location and timestamp of the problem.
Uses AI to detect fake or duplicate reports.
Enables community confirmation of the issue.
Forwards verified reports to the appropriate local authorities.
Tracks the issue status (Pending, Resolved, Invalid) transparently.
🛠️ How we built it We built CivicVoice as a responsive web application using:
HTML, CSS, JavaScript for the frontend.
Firebase for database, authentication, and storage.
Integrated free GIS APIs for mapping.
A demo version of our AI spam checker for issue validation.
Designed a user-friendly interface to allow easy submission and real-time feedback.
🧩 Challenges we ran into Building an anonymous yet trustworthy system without requiring login.
Validating reports while filtering out spam/fake entries using AI.
Ensuring live photo capture only, preventing gallery misuse.
Integrating maps and geotagging without costly APIs.
Creating a seamless UI that’s usable on both mobile and desktop.
