Inspiration
The upcoming 2024 election and the growing interest in local elections as an agent of change as opposed to national elections.
What it does
Helps voters be more aware of their local elections and politics, specifically in New York City by providing services such as:
- Allowing users to type in their ZIP code to find their councilmember
- Allowing users to search for what legislation is currently being discussed that falls in their interest of categories
- Allowing users to express their like or dislike of a proposal through voting
How we built it
A backend of Express with a MongoDB database based in GCP, and a front end based on React Native. Planning made with Figma. Uses Expo Go as a development server.
Challenges we ran into
- This was the first time we worked with React Native
- Coming up with an intuitive and engaging interface that still had a lot of information
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Including main features such as letting users use their ZIP code to see who their representative is and how to contact them
What we learned
Coding in such a short time requires a focused project idea
