Inspiration: Misinformation spreads rapidly online, making it difficult for people to distinguish fact from fiction. Inspired by the growing need for accessible fact-checking tools, we created Claritas—an AI-powered solution that helps users verify information in real time.
What it does: Claritas is an AI-driven tool that:
Scans text, links, or articles for potential misinformation. Analyzes credibility by cross-referencing sources. Provides a reliability score, helping users quickly assess accuracy.
How we built it
Building this project was a challenging yet rewarding journey. Dasha handled the front-end, focusing on a sleek interface, while I tackled the back-end, struggling with AI API integration. She faced difficulties linking pages, and Victor spent hours debugging API calls. Despite these hurdles, we collaborated closely, spending 34 hours to bring the project to life. The experience improved our technical skills and strengthened our teamwork, making the effort worthwhile.
Challenges we ran into
Data accuracy – Ensuring reliable fact-checking required refining our AI model. Time constraints – Developing a functional prototype in just 36 hours was intense! Collaboration – Managing multiple moving parts in a fast-paced hackathon setting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully building and deploying a Chrome extension in 36 hours. Designing a fully functional website to support and promote Claritas. Securing a custom domain to establish an online presence. Creating an engaging and professional presentation to pitch our project.
What we learned
Since we only had experience in Python and CSS before this hackathon, we had to learn almost everything from scratch: How to develop a Chrome extension using JavaScript, HTML, and APIs. UI/UX design principles in Figma to create an intuitive user experience. Web development beyond CSS, including structuring and hosting a functional site. Domain setup and deployment to make Claritas accessible online. Real-time problem-solving and debugging in a high-pressure environment. This hackathon pushed us to learn fast, adapt, and build something real—and we’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come!
What's next for Claritas
Expanding language support to reach a global audience. Enhancing AI accuracy with better data validation. Developing a mobile version for real-time fact-checking on the go. Partnering with fact-checking organizations to improve credibility analysis. Claritas is just the beginning, our goal is to make digital truth accessible to everyone.
