Inspiration

Some parts of the world are getting even less precipitation and some places are getting even more precipitation than they used to. And storms such as hurricanes are stronger than before. We are already experiencing the effects of increased greenhouse gasses from the past 200 years. ClimatePedia came up as an idea from wanting to create an informative site on anthropogenic climate change, and a weather app that could inform people on current weather conditions.

What it does

Our site includes information on the impacts of climate change caused by human activities, solutions to prevent more harm, and possible future or inevitable changes to the environment. Our weather features included information on a locations’ current temperature and air pollution conditions. These weather features will provide the user with the information they want for a specified location. Possibly providing some thought for users that current weather conditions are not the same as they use to be a year ago or even 10 years ago, noticing the effects of climate change. We have also added a donation page which allows users the chance to make contributions to preserving the environment which will be distributed to organizations such as the Environmental Defense Fund, this nonprofit uses research to advocate for environmental solutions.

How we built it

We built Climatepedia using OpenWeather api, which provided the data needed for a location's weather and air pollution. Our weather app was built from a template found on YouTube, in addition to our donation page. We also received help with our homepage from our mentors. Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were implementing the api for air pollution, apart from the temperature.
