Inspiration
Our lead developer travels a lot for his current job, and has had trouble trying to meet new people. We built this application in order to facilitate travel and socializing with others while on the flight along with providing a better flight experience through consolidated information.
What it does
Our app gathers data from various flight and destination APIs in order to provide users with updated flight information as well as various recommendations and activities to do around the area where they land. This data is used to help our users interact with others on the same flight and plan activities or discuss similar interests.
How we built it
We created a flask app that pulls from various APIs. It runs through HTML so that users will not have to download a separate app.
Challenges we ran into
Socket Programming - There was only one port available for the flask app so we had to use Socket IO to provide multiple chatrooms per flight.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're most proud of being able to come up with an idea and have a more complete and thought-out demonstrable version finished in such a short amount of time.
What we learned
We learned the importance of having a project lead that can facilitate communication between everyone. Drafting a pipeline with clear objectives for each member streamlined our process and helped the project develop as smoothly as possible.
What's next for Cloud Chats
Implement more server-less cloud technology, work with local municipalities to convey travel/covid restrictions, as well as socialize with local people. Develop as a Progressive Web App.
