Inspiration

In today’s world, financial decisions impact both our bank accounts and the environment. We wanted to create a solution that not only helps people manage their finances but also makes them more aware of the environmental consequences of their spending habits.

What it does

Our app is an interactive personal finance tool that manages income and expenses while tracking the carbon footprint of each purchase. It categorizes transactions, provides an analysis of environmental impact by spending category, and integrates an AI assistant for personalized financial advice, including complex topics like tax optimization.

How we built it

We used a combination of modern web technologies to build the app, ensuring a seamless user experience. The AI assistant was developed using machine learning models to analyze spending patterns and offer personalized financial recommendations. For carbon footprint tracking, we researched and integrated data on environmental impacts across different categories of consumption.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was accurately estimating the carbon footprint for each transaction, as we needed to gather reliable data for different spending categories. Integrating the AI assistant for tax and financial advice also presented technical difficulties in terms of ensuring accuracy and user-friendliness.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud to have created an app that bridges the gap between financial management and environmental awareness. The integration of AI to assist with personalized financial decisions, including taxes, is a feature we’re particularly excited about, as it simplifies complex financial processes for users.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned how to balance usability with complexity. Creating an intuitive user interface while delivering advanced financial and environmental insights was a key lesson. We also gained insights into how users prioritize their finances and the importance of making environmental data accessible and actionable.

What's next for CoastLine

Next, we plan to add sustainable consumption recommendations and integrate carbon offset programs, helping users not only track but also reduce their environmental impact. We also aim to expand the AI assistant’s capabilities to offer more comprehensive financial guidance and sustainability tips.
