Inspiration

Our journey began with a shared passion for sustainable living, fueled by a collective desire to contribute to a greener future. Realizing the growing need for innovative solutions in waste management, we set out to make a little impact leveraging technology.

What it does

The app prototype scans and sorts items into distinct categories, not only simplifying recycling but also at the same time encouraging responsible disposal practices. The app also has search features that allows users to search their item and which will sort it into distinct categories. Furthermore, the app has other accessibility features such as notification, profile, education, and find the closest recycling center page. The app is also linked to a quizlet page where users are allowed to take it when they create an account. This will allow them to earn rewards that can be used in the future for their benefits. There will also be weekly quizlets that can allow them to gain more rewards.

How we built it

Swift programming language was used to build the app, since it is designed for iOS. The scanning feature was built through weave.ly. And we will continue to work on integrating AI for recognizing the waste and API for linking quizlet to our application.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating the intricacies of prototype into the coding process required careful consideration, all while being completely new to app development appeared to be mountains of challenges.

Learning how to use Swift. Our working prototype, the dedicative efforts we put into making it work, and our learning curve!

What's next for Code Runner Scan Your Trash

We are looking forward to implement the Image Recognition into the app for sorting out items into waste categories and having a large database to do so. All the while adding more features like reward point incentives and quizzes.
