Inspiration
Before this hackathon, I had no experience or exposure to blockchain or Web3 technology. As a junior software engineer currently in university, I wanted to fully reap the benefits of this hackathon to show my abilities and also to take this opportunity to learn as much as I can about vital and emerging technologies linked to Challenge 2.
What it does
The idea of the project was to build a decentralised infrastructure where nodes would verify incoming data chunks via blockchain and proof-of-work mechanisms. The project is not finished yet but will be updated in future.
How we built it
The frontend was built using React, with the backend to be implemented through Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, I was a part of a team that was founded on the 17th of December, however, due to unforeseen factors out of our control, the team was disbanded. Despite this obstacle, I still was eager to produce something that could be showcased.
The project itself unfortunately is incomplete, due to time constraints and lack of manpower, but the intention is to provide a solution addressing data verification via consensus mechanisms in a decentralised infrastructure.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- proud of the accumulated learning over this intensive period pertaining to blockchain technology, despite the limited delivery of the product.
What we learned
- the importance and demand of blockchain technology.
- how blockchain technology works.
- the importance of data verification with emerging consensus mechanisms in a decentralised context.
- the evergrowing need for a decentralised database to limit exploits of control and marketing over data.
What's next for CodeKnights
I would like to pour more time into this to mould it into a personal project that still addresses this issue. I had previous interests in the product design industry, however, this experience has expanded my horizons to potential industries to explore and pursue in future. I'm very thankful for the opportunity by Openmesh to facilitate this learning.
