Inspiration

  • Our inspiration comes from an everyday passion of how to best start the day. We've made too many mistakes and have lazily forgotten to take note of every one of them, so we wanted to make a platform that takes some burden off the bookkeeping feel.

What it does

  • First and foremost, CoffeePhile aims to assist the user with intuitive tracking along with suggestions for the next brew. CoffeePhile will use the input and notes taken and conjure up micro-adjustments in order to improve the taste for next morning.
  • CoffeePhile is also a platform that will act as a shared resource. User content is key and will be the future focus of this web app.
  • Lastly, CoffeePhile will help with keeping users on track with a hint of gamification. Users will be rewarded accordingly based on login streaks, content being liked by others, and simply logging data often! There will be a point system which the user can accrue and cash out with rewards!

How we built it

  • We built this web app by splitting the front end and back end work. We used PSQL, Ruby on Rails, and Ruby to support the back end while utilizing Javascript, HTML5, and SCSS to cover the front end and make sure the user is visually comfortable and pleased.
  • Although not obvious due to the small data set, we have equal focus on how data is queried and will optimize efficiency as this idea grows!

Challenges we ran into

  • Only one of us were somewhat familiar with Ruby on Rails, the rest were day one and we definitely got sidetracked by syntax and environment/pathing issues at the beginning.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We're pretty proud to have implemented this amount of features for the 24 hours given. We have encryption for logging in, authentication, solid styling, etc. And we're proud enough to continue this outside of Rose Hack!

What we learned

  • We learned to keep strong even if we tackle majority of tasks. Each of us definitely were caught up with asinine bugs, and as time passed our logical thinking definitely worsened. Finish early before the drowsiness hits!

What's next for Coffeephile.

  • We plan on integrating hardware along with this to help the user measure their cups of joe! It's seemingly a daunting journey but we have high hopes for this plan
