Cerecode, a Brain-to-Speech Program (BSP), is an innovative project designed to empower individuals who face challenges expressing themselves verbally. Leveraging natural language processing technology, the system utilizes Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) to capture and interpret brain waves, translating them into coherent text. This text is then converted into spoken words, providing a voice for those who may be unable to communicate through traditional means.
The primary goal of this project is to enhance the quality of life for individuals with communication disabilities, including those with severe physical limitations or conditions such as ALS, locked-in syndrome, or other motor-neuron disorders. Key features of the BSP include real-time brain wave data acquisition, a sophisticated machine learning model involving both a gated recurrent unit-based recurrent neural network (GRU+RNN) and a large language decoding model, and a user-friendly interface for seamless interaction. The system not only facilitates communication but also promotes independence and autonomy for users who may otherwise struggle to convey their thoughts effectively. With the multitude of conditions that prevent otherwise healthy people from speaking and the importance of speech and communication in everyone's lives, this project is needed now more than ever.
This project represents a significant stride towards bridging the communication gap for individuals with limited verbal expression capabilities.
