Inspiration

ColorCue, a Firefox extension, is a project born out of a vision to significantly enhance web accessibility for users with color vision deficiencies.

What it does

Upon installation and activation, ColorCue guides users through a brief color-blind quiz hosted by enchroma. The quiz results are then used to calibrate the extension. With a simple click, users can conduct color calibration, and subsequently, access any website. The extension automatically adjusts text and images based on the calibrated colors.

How we built it

ColorCue was crafted using a blend of HTML, CSS, and extensive JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

During development, challenges included dealing with CORS issues, null parent-child relationships, and navigating the unfamiliar territory of creating browser extensions. The team learned about web APIs, content scripts, and background scripts along the way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A significant achievement was the implementation of a researched algorithm to dedaltonize images, addressing a crucial aspect of color vision deficiency.

What we learned

The development process deepened the team's understanding of the inner workings of the Document Object Model (DOM).

What's next for ColorCue

Moving forward, ColorCue aims to refine and expand its features to provide an even more robust solution for enhancing web accessibility for users with color vision deficiencies.
