Inspiration

With the rise of social media heightening even further during the pandemic, we have seen more and more elderly become isolated and separated from the greater community. Though so many different social media platforms exist today, some older people may find these platforms too complex and difficult to navigate through, which in result excludes them from the social connection that younger generations have today. We wanted to make a difference in the social media age by creating a simple way for the elderly to stay active, get involved with their community and build new connections.

What it does

Our solution to this ongoing problem is through the Community Circle application. This application allows seniors to browse through upcoming events that are happening around their neighbourhood. Our application has easy-to-use interphase, enlarged texts to make navigation easier for seniors, and minimal features to mitigate technical difficulties when in use. The participant sign up option is also quite simple.

How we built it

We used HTML, CSS, and a bit of JavaScript

Challenges we ran into

Learning how to use the google Maps API, HTML, CSS, and learning how to work together as beginner hackers with limited knowledge. Also working around different time zones XD

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are able to make an interactive web application that can help the elderly with our communities

What we learned

Implementing an API in HTML files as well as how to make HTML files interact between each other.

What's next for Community Circle

In 10 years' time, we hope our application will reach users worldwide and make checking up and calling to talk to the elderly in your neighborhood second nature.
