Community Green
What it does
Community Green is a social media app that promotes a clean environment. One is able to organize cleanups and volunteer for various opportunities to benefit the environment. Like the popular app Instagram, users are able to post pictures and view others’ posts, but on our app, people post what they’ve done to benefit their community. The "Maps" screen allows users to find upcoming and current volunteering events near them. If you click on a flag on the map, it will show you all the details of the event such as location, time, number of people needed, and if the user is available. Unique to Community Green, we implemented a point system. Based on how beneficial the task is for the environment, users can receive 50, 100, 150, or 200 points. In the users’ profile, they can get badges by the total number of points they have accumulated. 1,000 points gives the first badge, 2,000 the next, and so on. This continues until 10,000 points. When a user gets 10,000 overall points, instead of obtaining a badge, they get a $10 gift card.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Community Green is a unique app. There are many features in the app that motivates teens to participate in events and in the app in general. One of the features that is especially distinct is our point system.
What we learned
My teammate and I learned the various ways that we can benefit our environment.
What's next for Community Green
Community Green plans on creating a “Top 10” leaderboard. Users will be ranked weekly and monthly based on the number of points they have. If a user reaches number one in a monthly ranking, they will get a personal badge.
