Inspiration
It is estimated that every 1 in 5 deaths globally are associated with a poor diet, equivalent to about 11 million deaths. Because of this, we were inspired to build something that solved this grave issue.
What it does
CommunityFit is a platform we've created to help people who aspire to eat healthy meet their goals. Using Machine learning technologies, our app will classify how healthy the food you're eating is and assign you a score. People on the platform that eat the most healthy get top placements on the leaderboard!
How we built it
Dart + Flutter were used for the front end, with firebase for the backend. Python was used to develop an image recognition machine learning model.
Challenges we ran into
Developing an accurate image recognition software proved to by quite difficult and we spent a lot of time tweaking and perfecting it. Additionally, it was also difficult to design a user-friendly interface for the mobile app
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Both the functional frontend app and the backend server are definitely accomplishments. We are also proud of our image recognition model.
What we learned
We learnt how to develop applications with both a frontend and a backend. We also honed our computer vision skills and enhanced our ability of working as a team
What's next for CommunityFit
The future of CommunityFit is continuing to build a community oriented experience by developing in app media pages and other features. Eventually, we would like to reach out to as many communities as possible to make as large of an impact as we can
