Inspiration
To start making Compitas, we looked for many problems that exist in most universities. We realized that in almost all of them, at the beginning of your career they tell you that if you ever have problems with any subject, they will help you find a mentor so that you can overcome the adversities. But the reality is that it doesn't work that way on a day-to-day basis for various reasons. So, we created this solution to give the student community a way to find an ideal mentor for the problem they are facing.
What it does
Web application that connects students in the university, one outstanding student we call mentor, and another student who is having problems with a specific subject, to meet in a mentoring session. This in turn helps us solve two problems. One, academic problems in underachieving students, and two, social problems, with these small actions we contribute to the creation of a better student community.
How we built it
We chose Django to develop our project, did the layout of the project and started to develop the application.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was that for the development of this project we decided to use technologies that we barely know, so it was a steep learning curve for us at every stage of the development. And we made mistakes in the organization of this project, which played against us a little bit at the beginning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It is our first Hackthon, which has opened our eyes to how we can grow within our career, we had a small glimpse of what the future holds. Also how an idea in a conversation, something simple at the beginning, can become the development of a great project, which we believe is quite replicable in almost all universities.
What we learned
We have learned many new technologies, but one that has helped us, however, was a workshop on the use of Copilot, a tool that if we learn to use more and more, will be a powerful ally in our projects from now on.
What's next for Compita
We will look for a way to introduce it in a university, which will open the doors to continue improving in future versions, all areas have opportunities for improvement, Compitas will help many university students to improve their school performance and creating a better community.
