Inspiration
- As a group of young innovators, we were inspired to address a dire challenge in which students from across the world faced, lack of accessible or convenient academic support, as well as mental support!
What it does
- Connecteach is a platform for inspired tutors and students in need to easily find each other and connect. Tutors can easily create accounts and show off their personal teaching style and students can find them at the press of a button.
How I built it
- Connecteach is rendered with Vue.js and powered by an Express/MySQL API via Node. We started by building the basic scaffolding of our Vue project, then focused heavily on constructing a custom authentication flow that stores user information in MySQL and issued authentication tokens via a handwritten REST API.
Challenges I ran into
- Challenged we ran into were definitely time zone complications, although we were able to decided and reach a consensus to address this goal with our diverse skillsets. Node also proved finicky, preventing us from moving forward with our backend for a considerable amount of time.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- We were accomplished for simply taking the initiative to participate and engage with HackUMBC! We developed a web-app that would address a core problem with our generation, and its most dire needs, convenience in education and accessibility, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
What I learned
- We learned many aspects of the tools that we utilized and incorporated for our Web App. We were able to learn and approach problems with different perspectives and considering unique solutions, thanks to Hack UMBC!
What's next for Connect Each
- Even beyond Hack UMBC, our unified team plans on going beyond the hackathon, and developing this Web App to resemble a potential solution to education accessibility during COVID-19, rather than just a simple project!
