Inspiration
We traveled down to Durhack from Reading so coming in we knew absolutely nobody. This inspired us to create our ConnectDur.
What it does
By creating a profile on ConnectDur you will be automatically matched with other people at the event with similar interests as you. Alongside the computational matches, the proposed match will be sent out to the community at large to get the public opinion on the connections. By combining the objective computational data with the opinionated subjective data from the public, we can create a really unique service to help create long lasting connections at events. Unifying the event one friendship at a time.
How we built it
We're using a firebase stack to control the database (firestore), backend functions, storage and hosting. The site is built using react. When a potential match reaches a set approval threshold, a text message is sent out to begin the conversation between the two attendees.
Challenges we ran into
Going off on mad adventures in Yorkshire in the middle of the night tends to hamper progress slightly.

We made it to Durham uni without getting that lost
What we learned
People up north are absolutely lovely. People love a chat and everybody is bloody miserable down south.
