Inspiration

We were inspired mainly by TikTok learning streams.

What it does

The main feature is that it pairs you randomly with another user. This is for people that have troubles making friends during the corona pandemic or in general. Furthermore, the app is for people that have trouble motivating themselves to learn alone. Everything makes more fun together. Instead of just random selection, you can also join open sessions. The tool is not optimized for security or privacy of the users.

How we built it

Django

JS

Google Meet

With a Django background and a regular JS Frontend. Google Meet APIs were used too.

Challenges we ran into

We first tried to use BigBlueButton and Agora, but failed to implement them just like we wanted to. Another problem were difficulties we faced with GitHub and merging our work. In general, we don't have any professional experience. Still, we made a relatively professional web application. The last critical point was that we didn't have much time. So we couldn't finish all features that we would have liked to have. Maybe you'll find a bug or two 😅

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to design very quickly and are also proud of the result in 18h (we both slept at least 6 hours).

What we learned

Planning beforehand is essential - even if you think it is just a waste of time. Also, learning new languages and frameworks can widen your room for maneuver.

What's next for ConnectToLearn

We want to add private sessions, friend requests, file sharing and other cool functions that we weren't able to implement due to lack of time.
