Inspiration
- I'm a small, up-and-coming YouTuber, ready to take this world by storm.
- I've recently run into trouble organizing giveaways and little events for my viewer base.
- So, my friend and I've created CreatorBeacon, allowing me, and you, to easily organize giveaways and meetups with our fans.
What it does
- Allows you to organize meetups and giveaways easily
- Generates a QR code that fans can scan and instantly be entered in the giveaway
- Stores the winners and entries in a CockroachDB database hosted on the Google Cloud so the data is safe and won't be lost no matter how many people access your giveaway at once
How we built it
- We built a web application using the Django framework in Python
- Used a CockroachDB database hosted on the Google Cloud
- We designed the logo and front-end ourselves
Challenges we ran into
- One challenge we ran into was pushing ourselves and taking on technical challenges we had never encountered before, such as accepting image uploads from users
- Dealing with different time zones and time formats also challenged us quite a bit
- We expanded our front-end design skills by challenging ourselves to build a polished website
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating a beautiful front-end
- Building a website from scratch in a weekend
What we learned
- It is important to build error handling and handle failures as they come up
- If too many are left, it can become very difficult to fix all of them in the end
What's next for CreatorBeacon
- Making the website more stable and adding more user forms
Built With
- cockroachdb
- django
- google-cloud
- python
