Inspiration

Nathan's friend Anthony is a TikTok creator. One day Anthony and Nathan were hanging out when Anthony exclaimed that he was interested in getting involved in the NFT space. However, using the blockchain was too challenging for him. That's when Nathan got the idea to make it as seamless as possible for TikTok creators to turn their TikToks into NFTs.

What it does

TikTok creators will copy and paste the share URL into the tool and then hit mint. The TikTok will then be minted onto the blockchain where they can be immediately sold on any 3rd party marketplace like OpenSea. Upon the sale of the NFT the creator receives the profit since they are the initial owner of their tokens.

In addition, wallet custodianship is a key part of the platform. Most people don't want to have to set up a wallet so Cyber Genesis will manage user wallets for people should they choose that.

To make things even more seamless, there is a scheduling tool where creators can schedule several TikToks ahead of time to be minted on the blockchain, so they don't have to log in each time. Additionally, we will implement an optional feature to select creators' highest performing TikToks and set an upload schedule to optimize engagement and profit, making our tool a completely passive revenue stream for creators.

The whole purpose of the platform is to make it as painfully simple as possible for non-technical TikTok artists to put their content onto the blockchain.

Challenges we ran into

Covering the minting gas fees. We did not want creators to have to worry about covering gas fees; however, we still wanted the transactions to come from each creators' personal wallets and for creators to have immediate ownership over their own tokens. Our solution is to use meta-transcations relayed by us. Creators can cold-sign the mint transaction, then we can broadcast the transaction so we can handle the gas fee.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of how simple we have made the process. All it takes to convert a TikTok into a NFT is to paste the share url and click mint. No metamask required.

What we learned

We learned how there is a careful balance between keeping the ethos of blockchain - where everyone is independent and there are no middlemen - and simplifying the use of blockchain to the point where average citizens are still able to access it. It is important to make sure that users are still the owners of all their content and actions while simplifying the process to the point that they need in order to effectively use it.

What's next for Cyber Genesis

Next, we plan to build out the scheduling feature and cooldown system so that people don't spam their TikToks and instead space minting out to increase their individual value. In addition, we want to build out an algorithm to help determine what TikToks are the best to upload. Furthermore, we want to explore creating a DAO for holders of minted TikToks and build additional features that allow creators to engage their audience their tokens.
