Inspiration

After a severe weather event, it's common for victims to be in shock and not know what steps to take next. Moreover, there are hidden health risks when house damages have been incurred. Therefore, we wanted to create an easy to use app that provides users with resources to repair damages and inform them of potential heath risks they should be aware of.

What it does

To use our app, all the user would need to do is a one-time sign-in, providing location and budget constraints. They will then upload a picture of any damage to their house. The app will then provide insights as to what the damage is, cost estimates of fixing the damage, contact information to contractors, health risks to be aware of, and emergency resources.

How we built it

We first brainstormed the different interfaces of our app and how we wanted them to communicate with each other. Wanting to leverage AI tools, we created a prompt to input into lovable, which then created our app to demo.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we ran into was creating a solution that a user wouldn't be able to find on chatGPT and would still be beneficial during sever weather events.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a solution that provides resources relation to both health and repairs.

What we learned

We learned that there are sometimes long-term impacts to health that can go undetected if people are not aware. It was also interesting to learn about the various new AI tools available and how they can help in the climate and health space.

What's next for Damage Detective

Looking ahead, Damage Detective would be perfect to expand to other cities and for other severe weather events. There is even potential for this technology to be used by government to assess large scale damage to communities.
