Inspiration
People often don't see shopping as a particularly social endeavor, but we think that there is a niche where it can be. Dapper allows you to build and share outfits from any of Gap's brands, so you can be a little more connected when making the ever important decision of what you'll buy.
How it works
Using Kimono, we were able to scrape the Gap.com and its affiliates websites down to JSON files that we then used the SwiftyJSON API to parse. Then, we created a backend using Parse SDK and were able to get user login/logout systems working.
Challenges I ran into
Using Parse SDK was definitely a challenge for all of us, since none of us were familiar with network-level programming and the SDK itself on iOS.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We got a pretty attractive app together with solid proof of concept in around 36 hours of work.
What I learned
The value of a good UI can never be understated. Parse SDK is a huge skill that I can now say I (kinda) have, since I had never built an internet connected app before.
What's next for Dapper
Depending on how our school schedules go, our hope is that we can revisit this project in the future and perhaps come up with a tangible service. We also hope to be able to further our app beyond just Gap and it's brands.
