Inspiration
VMWare has tasked us to come with a way to bring the challenges they face with the topic with cleanIT at their data centers to end users.
What it does
Users need to schedule tasks to different data centers. Data centers are located all throughout Europe, each has a different environment. While some data centers may be more reliant in solar power for their electricity, making them less productive during the night, others may have more reliable sources of energy, like hydropower. Data centers in cooler areas may also require less cooling.
How we built it
We used Typescript and Webpack to create a static web page that runs entirely in the user's browser.
Challenges we ran into
The setup of the Typescript pipeline was something was something we were not accustomed to, since nobody had worked with that stack before.
Time was of course critical, and we had to sacrifice a lot of cool features at the end to get something working.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We really the look of the product, especially the map with its icons, animations and day/night cycle.
What's next for Data and Power
Many things can be improved upon and we are eager to do so.
