Inspiration
Our main inspiration was the Amber Alert system integrated within all mobile devices today. We wanted an app that emergency responders used while other general consumers would have an integrated system tied to it on their mobile devices for their benefit.
What it does
Ambulane is an app that emergency responders log onto in order to get authority to send alerts to other drivers that are near them en route to the caller's destination. Using this will help drivers stay clear of emergency response vehicles well ahead of time and help them get to their location faster.
How we built it
- We have a model in Figma that shows a rough idea we had for the app.
- We have some back-end programs that show how notifications get sent.
- We have an example of a notification being sent and received by the end user.
- We have some code-based UI design as well.
Challenges we ran into
For the back-end programming aspect of our application, we used AWS at first. However, it was proving too difficult and confusing, so we migrated to a different environment afterwards.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Some of us are first time hackathon participants. However, despite that, we were all able to contribute in a meaningful way towards the final product(s) we now have.
What we learned
Ideas are a very hard part of app design, arguably the hardest. We spent so much time thinking about ideas that we feel like if we just had our final idea sooner, we would've had an easier time building it.
What's next for Ambulane
If this gains more traction, perhaps we'll work more on it. However, this was more of just a nice healthcare related project to submit for our hackathon. We tried to think as critically as possible regarding how realistic it would be to pitch this idea to even a local government body, any upcoming problems this application might face, and etc. However, we felt like that would hinder our development too much, so we tried to just make something like this in a simple yet feasible manner.
