Inspiration

When we entered Northeastern University and we found out about the required courses, we were wondering where to look. We then realized that NEU's degree audit was very hard to follow, as it was a literal wall of text that was hard to read and difficult to understand in terms of the requirements for our majors. This prompted us to design a better audit.

What it does

Our website enables the user to submit a html copy of their degree audit generated by Northeastern's services, which communicates to our Python server. The server then runs a Java program to parse the audit and generate a new, better audit in the form of a jpg file and the server sends it back to the user.

How we built it

We built it with a Python server and a Java application. Two of our members worked on the back-end, two worked on the design, and one worked on the front-end.

Challenges we ran into

Nothing much. Github challenges with IntelliJ. Standard debugging process. Terrible wall of text. Inconsistent formatting and poor html design (on part of Northeastern).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We love the color scheme. We also feel that our audit is relevant and useful to students who are tired of Northeastern's audit.

What we learned

We learned that Northeastern's degree audit system is more disorganized and inconsistent than we could have imagined. Also, IntelliJ and Github are sometimes tricky to use together.

What's next for DegreeIMG (Pimp My Audit)

We would like to propose it to Northeastern and continue developing it to make it better.
